I could make a website on easy side dish recipes alone! There’s so much stuff and ingredients around and available. The only thing you have to do is start thinking outside your comfort box of the weekly boiled potatoes on Monday, steam bags of broccoli on Lazy Day or cooked peas to go by the Sunday roast. Get creative!

Here’s how we do it: pick one type of fresh vegetable or fruit and stick to it. The variety and choice is huge: capsicum, spring onion, cauliflower, turnips, eggplant, apples, fennel, lettuce, beetroot, celeriac, sugar snaps, pears, asparagus, kale, carrots, parsnip… Anything you want! Now take a look at what you chose and start storming your brain about how you could prepare it. Or browse the internet for extra inspiration. You would be surprised of what you can do with it! Boil, steam, grill, barbecue, stirfry, oven roast, broil, braise, fry… Ways enough to turn your easy side dish recipes into an exciting piece of art! Just keep it simple: your veg or fruit of choice should be the king of your dish. Bring out the maximum amount of flavor and maybe you’ll start appreciating things you were not very fond of before. This will increase your healthy appetite and love for cooking but also decrease your supermarket bill.

We shouldn’t only talk about fruits or vegetable sides but also think of interesting meal ideas to replace the daily pile of boiled potatoes on our plate. Very easy substitute: bread! Grill it with a little sprinkle of olive oil, make garlic bread or my personal favorite: rub the grilled bread with fresh tomato just like the Spanish do their pan con tomato. If you can’t step away from your daily dose of boiled potatoes, try to think of other ways to prepare them: oven roasted, in a gratin, steamed, mashed, grated rösti style, stuffed, fried… But why not try to replace them by for instance a creamy polenta, pasta, wheat, couscous or even pulses such as chickpeas or lentils.
So get creative! Cooking should be pure fun! Develop or revive your love food and cooking by only a few changes without breaking your budget!
